He studied fine arts in Paris in 1990-1992. In 1993 he won the award for Best Screenplay from the Educational Institute of Screenwriting with "A Painter and A Criminal Condemned to Death". After two more screenplay awards, he made his directorial debut with Crocodile (1996) ("Crocodile"). Then he went on to direct Wild Animals (1997) ("Wild Animals"), Birdcage Inn (1998) ("Birdcage Inn"), The Isle (2000) ("The Isle") and the highly experimental Real Fiction (2000) ("Real Fiction"), shot in just 200 minutes. Andrei Mironov was a Soviet comedian known for The Diamond Arm (1969)
He was born Andrei Aleksandrovich Menaker on March 8, 1941, in Moscow. His father, Aleksandr Semenovich Menaker, and his mother, Mariya Mironova, were famous actors in the Soviet Union. From 1958-1962 he studied acting at the Moscow Shchukin School. From 1962-1987 Mironov was a permanent member of the trope at the Moscow Theatre of Satire.
In 1961, while being a student of acting school, Mironov made his film debut in 'A esli eto lyubov?', by director Yuli Raizman. He became famous after his roles in My Younger Brother (1962), written by Vasiliy Aksyonov and directed by Aleksandr Zarkhi, and in '3+2' (1962), directed by Genrikh Oganisyan. Mironov did a nice performance in a supporting role in Watch Out for the Automobile (1966) (Watch Out for the Automobile 1966), by director Eldar Ryazanov. In it Mironov worked with the stellar acting ensemble, including such actors, as Innokentiy Smoktunovskiy, Oleg Efremov, Anatoliy Papanov, Georgi Zhzhyonov, Evgeniy Evstigneev, Olga Aroseva, Donatas Banionis, and others.
Andrei Mironov is best known for his brilliant performance in supporting role as Kozodoev, a sloppy tourist turned involuntary jewel-smuggler in popular comedy The Diamond Arm (1969) (The Diamond Arm 1968), by director Leonid Gaidai. After this film Mironov became a superstar in the Soviet Union. He worked with an outstanding ensemble of stars, such as Yuriy Nikulin, Anatoliy Papanov, Nina Grebeshkova, Nonna Mordyukova, and other popular Russian actors. The film became the biggest box-office hit ever in the Soviet Union with theatrical admissions over 76,000,000 in the year 1969. It still remains popular after many decades. In the 1995 national poll The Diamond Arm (1969) (The Diamond Arm 1968) was voted the best Russian-Soviet film of all time.
Andrei Mironov was among the most popular Russian actors during the 1960s, 1970s, and 1980s. He was highly regarded for his distinguished contribution to comedy. Among his best works was his interpretation of the classic character Ostap Bender in _"12 stulev" (1977) (mini)_ (Twelve chairs 1977), by director Mark Zakharov. There his partners were Anatoliy Papanov, Rolan Bykov, Georgiy Vitsin, Oleg Tabakov, Aleksandr Abdulov, and others. Mironov also worked with Mark Zakharov in An Ordinary Miracle (1979) (An Ordinary Miracle 1978), where his partners were Aleksandr Abdulov, Irina Kupchenko, Evgeniy Leonov, Evgeniya Simonova, Yekaterina Vasilyeva, and Oleg Yankovskiy.
Andrei Mironov was designated People's Artist of Russia, and also received awards at Soviet film festivals. He had a apoplexy and collapsed during his performance on stage, in the arms of his friend and partner Aleksandr Shirvindt, just minutes before the end of the show. Mironov died of a brain hemorrhage aged 46, on August 16, 1987, only thirteen days after the death of his best film partner Anatoliy Papanov. Andrei Mironov was laid to rest in the Vagankovo Cemetery in Moscow, Russia. He was survived by his wife, actress Ekaterina Golubkina, and their daughter, actress Maria Mironova.- Director

She was born Alida Fritsevna Artmane, on July 21, 1929, in a village near Tukums, Latvia. Her father, Fritsis Artmane, was of Batic German ancestry, and he died four months before she was born. Her Polish mother, Anna Zaborska, survived by doing seasonal agricultural jobs. Young Artmane grew up playing in the fields, she was fond of wild flowers and learned to make flower arrangements and dolls. At the age of 10, young Artmane became a shepherd girl. She worked with a herd of cows for five years, and survived until the end of the Second World War. In 1946 she graduated from school and had a dream of becoming a lawyer in order to make the world a better place, but her passion for acting prevailed.
In 1946 she moved to Riga, and changed her first name to Vija, beginning her studies at the Daile Theatre Second Studio. From 1946 - 1949 Vija Artmane studied acting under the tutelage of the legendary Latvian theatre director Eduard Smilgis. From 1949 to 1999 Artmane was a permanent member of the troupe at the Daile Theatre in Riga. Her most memorable stage works were Juliet in 'Romeo and Juliet' (1953), and Ofelia in 'Hamlet' among other Shakespeare's plays. Vija Artmane had also created important roles in Latvian plays such as 'Indulis and Arija' and 'Fire and Night' under direction of by Janis Rajnis. She was critically acclaimed for her passionate performance as Anna Karenina in the eponymous play by Lev Tolstoy directed by Eduard Smilgis; she also played in Tolstoy's 'War and Peace', in Gogol's 'Dead Souls', and other classic Russian plays. From 1998 to 2000 she worked with the New Riga Theatre. There she appeared in the title role in stage production of 'Queen of Spades' based on the eponymous drama by Alexander Pushkin.
In 1956 Artmane made her film debut in 'Posle shtorma' (1957) (aka.. After the Storm). In 1963 she shot to fame in the Soviet Union with her leading role as Sonya, a beautiful and loving mother, in Rodnaya krov (1964). After that film Artmane was nicknamed "Mother-Latvia" in her homeland. Her film career was highlighted with such roles as Veda Kong in Tumannost Andromedy (1967), as Catherine the Great in Pugachev (1979), as Julia Lamber in Teatris (1978) and other film works. Artmane appeared as herself in documentary on her biography titled 'Conversation with the Queen' (1980) which was produced at the Riga Film Studio.
Vija Artmane received the title of National Actress of Latvia, and was designated People's Artist of the USSR in 1969. In 1999 Vija Artmane was awarded by the Culture Ministry of Latvia for her contribution to the art of theatre and cinema. In 2003 she received a special Theatre Prize for her long-standing contribution to Latvian culture. Vija Artmane was married to actor Arturs Dimiters and the couple had two children, a son and a daughter. In 2004 she published a book of memoirs titled 'The moments of my life'. She died on October 8, 2008 of natural causes and was laid to rest in Pokrovsky cemetery in Riga, Latvia. - Director
